What do we do at Book Club?
- Book Club members meet-up for 45 mins to chat about that month's book. The idea is to finish the book before our meeting so that we can discuss it without being worried about spoilers. However it is not an issue if they don't finish they can still contribute and often it gives someone motivation to keep going to finish it.
- I lead the discussion and guide Book Clubbers - we want to encourage young readers to be thinkers, but are keen to ensure our meetings fun!
- We also play a couple of games connected to the book we have just read and/or other kids books
- Note If you have a reluctant reader no one is going to know if you read it together - they can still come and discuss their thoughts. Our main objective is to make reading fun.
What do we get with each ticket?
- 2 fantastic new titles to read before each meeting!
- Plus a spot at the Book Club table (numbers are limited)
How much are the tickets?
- $40
What Age do you recommend?
- The books chosen are recommended for age 8-10
What book are you reading next?
About the Book:
A tremendous whooshing noise started up. It sounded like a million pages being riffled at once. I caught a strong whiff of gingerbread. Then The Complete Fairytales of the Brothers Grimm flew open and a human-shaped blur came shooting out …
Basil Beedon and Terry Clegg are neighbours, and that's all they have in common. Terry loves sport and Basil loves books – but to Basil’s absolute dismay, he’s been roped into helping Terry with his reading. Every. Single. Saturday. However, that's the least of his worries when Gretel comes shooting out of The Complete Fairytales of the Brothers Grimm. The boys are plunged into a dangerous world run by the Fairytale Alliance Network of Character Yunions (FANCY), where not everyone is what they seem, Hansel has been kidnapped and a plot hole threatens to destroy everything.
Witty, clever, with adventure at every turn, this is a fractured fairytale in a very surprising, Grimm world.
